Multiple Carriers

There is no “typical” policy.

Your practice and practitioners are unique, and coverage needs can vary greatly based on risk exposure. Ritman represents multiple insurance carriers, which enables us to accommodate each and every one of these variations.

Ritman is the recognized provider of professional liability insurance for the Indiana State Bar Association. This endorsement is testament to Ritman's ability to provide professional liability coverage for all classes of risk and all types of clients — from part-time practitioners to large specialty law firms with hundreds of attorneys.

Domestic or Admitted Carriers

Different insurance carriers provide different rates and levels of professional liability coverage. A domestic or admitted carrier is more closely regulated with an individual state's Department of Insurance. In order for an admitted carrier to conduct business in a certain state, they must file their rates and forms with the state's insurance department. Admitted carriers also participate in state guarantee fund protections. This means in the event of insolvency, the state guarantee fund provides financial protection to policyholders and claimants and will pay any claims.

Ritman's access to multiple insurance programs and products enables us to shop your professional liability insurance to more than one insurance company with A.M. Best ratings of “A-” (Excellent) or better. You have several options when you work with Ritman, and we will help you choose the protection coverage that best suits your needs.

Non-Admitted or Specialty Lines Carriers

A non-admitted carrier, also called specialty or surplus lines carriers, refers to companies that generally underwrite risks or parts of risks for which insurance is not available through an admitted carrier. These risks could include a firm that has a troubled claims history or one that needs exceptionally higher limits. Non-admitted carriers play an important role in the professional liability insurance industry by providing coverage that otherwise would be unavailable or with inferior limits.
